Police say a man wanted nationwide who was arrested in the Fraser Valley late last week was trying to get out of Canada.
The Chilliwack RCMP says its Serious Crime Unit (SCU) received an urgent call from the Grand Prairie RCMP’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) on Thursday, April 25.
It was an urgent request for help to locate and apprehend a man who was wanted on a Canada-wide arrest warrant for child pornography offences in Alberta.
“He had recently arrived in Chilliwack and was attempting to flee the country,” explained an RCMP release.
The SCU and other units rushed to downtown Chilliwack, where the man was believed to be, and were able to locate and arrest him within a short period of time.
“We strive to ensure that those who commit crimes against children are held accountable through the court system,” said Cst. Tobi Araki from the Chilliwack RCMP SCU.
Due to the nature of the investigation, police will not be publicly releasing the man’s identity at this time.
According to police, he’s currently being held in custody and will be returned to Alberta to answer to charges laid against him.
