More videos surface of 'Okanagan Autobahn' driver

Someone in the Okanagan is driving around Highway 97 and on another roads at excessive speeds and then uploading the activity to YouTube for all to see.

At the end of July, a person named Okanagan Bob posted a video of themselves driving from Vernon to Lake Country, topping speeds of 180 km/hr. Once the local media caught wind of the video, it was quickly taken down, but not before the RCMP took a look and opened an investigation.

Now, Okanagan Bob has taken to the YouTube account to brag about the reaction in the media, thinking it is being done anonymously. While the original Vernon to Lake Country Autobahn video has disappeared, Okanagan Bob's other YouTube account is still showing footage containing excessive speeding.

In at least one instance, the dash speedometer shows the user named Hazim Kadar going 118 km/hr in a 70 km/hr zone. The YouTube user, Okanagan Bob, comments on the video stating that it was posted for educational reasons.

"I am well aware of the 'countless' fatalities that happen on the highway every year, most of them being distracted-driver related. (I am on it everyday) The centre barrier to Vernon may prevent head on collisions but it will not stop bad driver fatalities. The 70 and 50 zone through Lake Country are not known for fatalities like the old highway was along Wood Lake," said Okanagan Bob about the video.

In a second video, Hazim Kadar complains about another driver that filed a complaint after a near collision. The video shows Kadar going around a corner at a high rate of speed and crossing the centre line as a Toyota heads towards them. With tires squealing as the driver takes corners, in this video, Kadar's dash speedometer shows 85 km/hr in the 50 zone.

According to RCMP Cst. Jesse O'Donaghey, this new information has been passed along to the investigator as the investigation is still ongoing.

"The RCMP have reviewed the video posted online which clearly shows a motorist travelling at dangerously high speeds along Highway 97 between Lake Country and Vernon. Efforts will be made to identify the registered owner of the vehicle and or its driver and if identified either could face potential Motor Vehicle Act charges."

O'Donaghey encourages motorists to obey the posted speed limits, not to avoid tickets but to avoid unnecessary tragedy. Anyone with any information is asked to contact RCMP Central Okanagan Traffic Services (COTS) at 250-980-5353.
