McDonald’s recalls millions of kid’s toys in Canada and the U.S.

A popular children’s toy given away with McDonald’s Happy Meals has been voluntarily recalled after multiple reports of injuries.

McDonald’s USA and Canada announced Tuesday that they are working with the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada to recall their Step-it Activity Bands distributed in Happy Meals and Mighty Kids Meals after receiving customer reports of skin irritations and burns from wearing the band.

"Nothing is more important to us than the safety and well-being of our customers which is why upon learning about concerns with these bands we acted swiftly to stop distribution of these products," said Terri Hickey, a spokesperson for McDonald's. "We are now asking customers who have the activity bands to stop wearing them and return to any McDonald’s for a free replacement toy and a choice of a yogurt or apple slices.

“We apologize to our customers who were impacted and for the inconvenience this recall has caused.”

Approximately 33 million wristbands were manufactured for the U.S. and Canada. About 29 wristbands were handed out in the U.S., with about 3.6 million more in Canada.

McDonald’s has received more than 70 reports of incidents, including seven reports of blisters, after wearing the wristbands.
